Welcome to Specialsport consulting
We help you find the right recreational activity and support with what's difficult

We’ve spoken to more than 1,000 parents over the years and two things in particular keep coming up again and again
- Uncertainty about association life – especially whether the child is understood and treated in the best way for the child.
- Time, energy and ability to transport the child to the activity every week.
We are experts in finding solutions to both of these (And many more). We can’t necessarily promise that it will be ‘swimming’ that your child can go to every ‘Thursday’ and that we will provide transportation, but we can work on alternative activities, different days, different transportation solutions, or work on creating a new class exactly where it makes sense for your family. We never give up, so if we are patient together, we always succeed in the end.
Childhood is long and we have plenty of time – the most important thing is that we create good experiences around club life that your child can take with them into adulthood. Read also our ‘argument for club life‘.

Five simple steps
The purpose of the ‘Sports Internship’ is to optimize your child’s chances of success in the club life. We do this by identifying your family’s specific needs for support and help, because our children are so different. The process consists of the following steps:
1
All students from the special needs area can get a sports internship – either through the school or you parents.
2
We will have a thorough conversation over the phone (interview) where we try to get to know your child and understand your needs as a family.
3
We think outside the box and find the best solutions(see our options below).
4
We agree on the start day of the 4 week (probationary period) sports internship and we are available for the entire period.
5
We’ll follow up and find out if the club match is a success for both your child and you as a family.
What support and help can we provide?
The short answer is: ‘We don’t know yet‘. We have a wide range of different options that we can explore together, but the options depend on which municipality you live in, what barriers are present for your child and your family and what options and solutions we can provide in the specific situation… but we promise that we will not give up!
Below we have described the different help and support we have experienced so far.
We match the best possible fit based on your child’s specific needs. It’s always the association that should fit the child – not the other way around!
We coordinate specific agreements with the association in advance so that everyone is prepared and it’s the best possible start-up.
We sometimes find team volunteers who can give the individual child a little more attention during the training.
We find volunteer companions who can help get to and and back from the activity for a period of time until we find a permanent solution.
Are you taking several students from the same school to the same leisure activity? Then it can be easier and cheaper to book a taxi.
We try to match to the right support options, such as municipal leisure passes, at DGI or via local NGOs.
If there is a need for statutory support, such as educational support or a companion program – our social worker will help with the application.
We love success!
We’re constantly finding little things that make a big difference – and our BIGGEST reward is when another child finds their match in the community!
students from special schools and special classes around Denmark have been in sports internships since January 1, 2023
Last updated on 24.02.2025
In fact, so far, 8 out of 10 students have become active in associations after starting a sports internship – and with those who did not become active at first, we continue the dialog with afterwards.
