The target audience
Let it be broad and diverse – across different types of special needs. The group becomes more harmonious and balanced when everyone is not challenged in the same areas. Later you can define more precisely when you see who is included.
Coaches and volunteers
The less experience with the target group you have, the more tools we use – but there is no requirement for trainers to have any special skills or knowledge. But it’s good to have a lot of taking care of the team, because then it’s much easier to start a sports party that the participants can become a part of.
Track time and facilities
Yes – right where everyone else wants to be… Monday-Friday 16-18, or Saturday at 10 am… or just whatever is possible 🙂 Preferably near the club…
Practical planning
There must be an option for online trial registration – can easily be done through Specialsport.dk. The price must reflect the club’s other membership fees.
Recruitment
We start with an online Facebook campaign and supplement with flyers to the nearest special schools. Then we do visits and school collaborations… the goal is to start with a few participants and slowly build up to 10-15 participants after a year. It is not an advantage to start many!
Startup
Now it’s time to find welcome gifts for the new members! Preferably a shirt or something else cool with a club logo on it… in general, this team can’t have too many gifts and medals.
Inclusion & community life
First, we need to work on the team spirit and good energy within the team and with the coaching staff. After a year, work systematically to find good ways for the team to contribute to the greater community of the club through visibility, participation and volunteering. Still on very specific terms, depending on opportunities and skills.
