Volunteer for children and young people with special needs

Team manager, special sports helper, special sports agent or companion?

Do you want to be a volunteer in Specialsport.dk, around children and sports in the clubs? Want to start a local branch in another part of Denmark? Do you want to work to promote access to sport for children and young people with special needs?

Whatever the reason, you are welcome at Specialsport.dk We work to be in the gap between families and the club life and remove the barriers and frictions that arise on the way to an active life with sports, for both the child and the family.

Team leading

As a team leader, you are very close to the club and attend all training sessions. You spar with the club’s coaches on how to get all the kids engaged in the training and make sure everyone goes home happy from the training. You’re the extra hand, the one who chats with parents on the sidelines or has time to sit in a corner and take care of a child who needs a little extra.

Or maybe you’re the team leader who is starting a brand new team from scratch? That you are the one who has the dialog with the board and coaches about how to get started? Of course with our full support and education behind you :).

Special sport helper

As a special sport helper, you’ll help create a party at every training session! You’re the one at the front of the warm-up and always running after the ball. Your job is to create energy, joy and excitement around the sport so that the children have an energy that they can ‘step into’ and become a part of. Probably one of the most important features of all! Without you, the party never really gets started.

The best thing is if you think it’s great fun to go all out during training – the kids can feel it and that’s when it becomes contagious and becomes a real sports party!

Companion

As a companion, you are very close to the child. Your job is to pick up the child from school or home, accompany them to the sport and back home again. But it’s also your job to find a different and more permanent arrangement for transportation to and from sports for the child.

Maybe you can train your child over time to become self-reliant and either walk, cycle or take the bus by themselves? Or you find a solution with one of the other parents on the team to ride together? Or maybe there are more friends at school who want to join in and we can make a shared taxi arrangement? Or that the municipality can come in and approve a more permanent follow-up program?

As a companion, you should expect a 3-6 month companion period, after which we need to establish a transition to a more permanent solution for the child and family.

Special Sport Agent

As a special sport agent, you’re close to the family and finding the best possible club solution for the child and their specific needs. You build a relationship with the family and the child, which allows you to slowly get to know what the child wants and what motivates them. What opportunities does the family have around the different club solutions and what barriers might stand in the way?

Together, you and your child try out a few different options for sports and clubs until you find what’s right for your child and family. At the same time, you are in close dialog with the rest of specialsport.dk about what initiatives can be good to offer the family to make it all work.

You are never alone in the decisions and you always have close sparring available 🙂
