Silas goes swimming
Silas has never been active in sports before, but when Specialsport.dk collaborated with his school, he got the opportunity to try out a lot of sports through Projekt Sportspraktik, supported by Egmont Fonden. The students ‘sports shop’, which means that the students in 2 rounds try out different sports options. After that, students choose which sport and organization they would like to intern with. Silas had no doubts :-).
Today, Silas is still active and now enrolled in Parasport Aarhus Swim Team, which trains every Wednesday – along with 3 other friends from school.

When we met Tobias, he was 14 years old and had a number of challenges such as infantile autism, learning disabilities and severe OCD. He really wanted to do some sports. Through Specialsport, he discovered that he liked to play handball.
It’s now been more than 6 years since Tobias started handball and he’s become part of a community, he’s developed a lot in terms of much more independence, needing less help and has making more friends.

- Social presence and good friends
- An adult nearby on some occasions
- Lots of hugs and high fives
Frederikke goes to karate
Frederik is 11 years old and attends a special school for children with severe general learning difficulties. It can be difficult for Frederikke to express exactly what she’s thinking, but when the opportunity presented itself, she had no doubt: Frederikke repeatedly pointed to martial arts as her sport!
Today, Frederikke has been practicing karate for more than a year and there are now several parts of the training that Frederikke participates in completely independently – and then there are parts where a junior coach steps in and guides. But it’s no longer mom and dad who are on the training mat and Frederikke is very happy with that – she loves putting on the gi and heading off to karate training.
Needs
- Support for the execution of the activities
- Concrete and visual instructions during training
- Few simple exercises and very low complexity
Mohammad takes up badminton
Mohammad was one of the first children to sign up for Egmont Foundation’s sports internship program at Stensagerskolen – the family had wanted to find a sport for both Mohammad and his brother for several years. Both were introduced to handball and then badminton, with some support and help along the way. A volunteer friend during training, taxi transportation during a start-up period and help with applying for a companion at the municipality Together we managed to find the right solutions for both of them 😉
Your efforts have been amazing!
“Louise has been super helpful along the way, answering questions and providing a clear framework so that we finally got not only Mohammad but also his big brother signed up for sports. It’s a big deal. You guys are great.
Say hello to Egmont Fonden and thank you very much. It was exactly the push we needed.”
Damayanthi,
Mother of Mohammad and Kavee
